Navajo / Zuni Artisan- ALBERT JAKE- Well Designed- Vintage Revival- Sterling Black Onyx Pendant- (Navajo Bench Bead Necklace Sold Separate)
This impressively made pendant was made by the hands of Navajo/Zuni artisan Albert Jake.Using the shape of the large oval as the pivot point,Al then did what he does best & that is by creating his phenomenal sterling work around it.It's obvious the stone came 1st for the design he came up with..This sterling work then was used to enlarge the design to help create more statement to the pendant.
Al's use of 'form & balance' is witnessed throughout, with everything in the design,in align with each other. The design is very traditional & has a undeniable Navajo look.
THE STONE:
The onyx is perfectly cut in a oval shape & comes with a nice mirror polished look. It's size is so large that it nearly spans to just under the 2" width of the pendant. Personally if you asked me,there is nothing more attractive that when onyx is paired with sterling & especially when the sterling has been finished with a "Vintage Revival" oxidized finishing! Also in my opinion, the sterling's beauty is brought out when worn with all black wardrobe!
This has a nice weight to it that feels nice & solid & durable & not weak & flimsy feeling..

THE BALE:
Made in a corrugated tapered style, the pendant is shown with Sandra Zambrano's hand made 9 mm-26" Navajo Pearl necklace(Can be found in my listings),but with the bales just over 1/2" opening, can be worn with a larger milimeter size bead that's no more than a 12 mm bead size so the pendant can 'move & breathe' while on the beads.

**BELOW IS JUST A SMALL EXAMPLE OF HOW PRICING WORKS IN JEWELRY.**
1st of all, the artists name has a lot to do with how expensive a piece will be..You can have 2 designers making the same thing, the same way,but if one designer has a 'bigger-more recognizable' name, their's will cost more.It all comes down to how many years they've been in the industry, the awards they've won, the demand for their jewelry, or say if a well known artist has passed..(Al's jewelry always demands a higher price!)
The size of the stone has much to do with pricing, when you look at what the artist had to pay 'per carat' for the stone,as well as how'many carats' the stone has.
What also goes into the final pricing is the cost of the metal,(what gauge did they use?) the weight of the metal & the TIME to make the piece! Artists put TIME into giving us their incredibly made pieces & their time needs to valued & respected!
This is how pricing works! And in this business, you pay for what you get!
