THE ARTIST:

Al was born in Zuni Pueblo in 1959 & shares both Zuni & Navajo bloodlines..He learned the art of classic Navajo silversmithing from his parents & has grown to be one of the "finest" & more collectible artists when it comes to traditional classic Navajo styles. Being a sand painter, as well as a painter, helps to give Al an 'eye' for creating jewelry that is visually & aesthetically correct by having the perfect balance between metal & stone.

Jake's work demands a higher price than most & it's pretty obvious why.I don't care whether it's his 'more than perfectly made-well executed cuffs, his rings or pendants,he will always make sure that each piece has the cleanest workmanship & they're 'done right, no matter how long it takes to make the piece..

He is a the epitome of a true artist who knows the "why's",the "what's" & the "how's" of what he's doing & never do you have to question how long he's has been at it,because you will see it in his work.. He is a "Above Average" artist that offers "Above Average" jewelry. All you need to see is that hallmark of his,to know you'll be owning a piece that will be made with the highest grade stones available & a piece that's made to perfection.Al sits high at the top of my list for these reasons.

DESCRIPTION:

Well executed & designed, this is tastefully traditional in technique, but having a modern day/contemporary edginess..

Al used a fine rectangular cut of top notch navy blue colored Lapis that is beautifully domed & you can witness the finest lapidary skills in which it was cut.The stone has gold pyrite, which is what we want to see with good Lapis. It lays atop of an extension of sterling that has perfectly chiseled lines which gives it the corrugated look it has.Al first chose the form of the stone that then dictated the shape of the sterling. All the beads ,conchos, appliques that lay around the stone are all made by Al.The oxidation is left in the crevices of the lines which only encourages the beauty of the metal come to the forefront.

The bale has the same corrugated sterling work & has a 13 mm opening,so you wouldn't want to put this on anything larger than a 12 mm bead so the pendant can move & breath on the necklace..I think personally because of it's size, something in the 20"to 24" looks best with this size pendant..(But that's your call!)

It's not overpowering in size,so if your wearing other Lapis pieces,it will only compliment them!
