DESCRIPTION:
Navajo Tufa artist “LEE BEGAY” isn’t just a jeweler (whose work is in great demand!) but to do the type of work he does, you have to be skilled at drawing as well.Lee drew this into the tufa stone with impeccable detail & gives you such a sense as if your in a garden while watching Spider Woman reaching out her hand to the spider as he drops from his silky thread to greet her!.She has a bowl in her hand & hummingbirds fly near by.She is dressed in traditional Navajo attire, wearing a sash, earring in her ear, finger separation & her feeding hand with palm up..
The symbols you see below the web/bottom represent this: The circle in the piece represents the 'circle of life',the arrow represents protection & the hand represents "the Morning Prayer"..
What I love in Lee’s drawings is the fact that he always gives movement in the Navajo chignon bun, drawing vertical lines of the hair to show it is worn in a vertical way & horizontal lines that act as the yarn that ties it.
The metal is a non-bendable, heavy gauge sterling that is nice & durable.Even though the whole pendant has a deeply oxidized finish,he knew where to let certain parts glow a bit more..
Personally with this finishing, you would want to hang this on a strand of oxidized Navajo Pearls, since the finishing between the two,go hand in hand.(See photos 3 & 6)This will not look right with a shiny contemporary strand/chain.Being Tufa stone cannot be used twice, makes this a one of a kind pendant!
** Please look through my listings(Various categories) for more of not only Lee’s jewelry, but by his brother Darryl & his cousin Philander Begay. (Also look in the “Men’s listings **
