Navajo Artist- MARCELLA JAMES- Traditional Navajo Applique- Purple Spiny Oyster- Vintage Revival Sterling Pendant- 2.75"
Navajo artisan Marcella James is well known for her traditional Navajo jewelry, where you'll find an undeniable Navajo look to her jewelry & will rarely 'step out of the box'..This pendant is a clear example of the style she is widely known for.
Hanging from a decorative bale,is a good size tear drop shaped pendant, where the hand made crescent moon shaped appliques & little conchos are layered atop of a durable gauge sterling sheet. The base is slightly domed,as well as the appliques which give it it's dimensional appearance. All the heavy stampwork is accentuated by the oxidation left within the design.
The perfectly cut tear drop shape oyster shell has some great character & even though it comes across as being purple, there are undertones of yellow in it!
The widest opening part of the decorative bale is about 8 mm,so in order for the pendant to 'move & breathe' with whatever you put it on,should be smaller than the 8 mm. The bale is tapered.
You can't go wrong with anything Marcella makes & this would be a great addition to any southwest/Native American /Spiny Oyster collection!
