THE ARTIST: WARREN NIETO:

Kewa Puebloan artist Warren Nieto doesn't create anything that doesn’t have something to do with his Ancestral Puebloan ancestry & nothing that doesn’t have an ancestral pueblo story behind it. With his picturesque art, he brings you right there to the Pueblo, while you learn this centuries old cultural background that plays a dominant role in pueblo life & something that gets passed down through oral history..

Rather than using a canvas, tubes of color & brushes, what Warren does is he paints "Symbolic” Puebloan meanings in a mosaic form that’s artistically done in colorful stones & shells from the earth. These things are what separate him from many in the Kewa village. So with that said, this isn’t just another Thunderbird bolo tie,but rather a bolo tie with a symbolic story behind it.

THE THUNDERBIRD:

Made of ultra shimmery white Mother of Pearl & Sleeping Beauty turquoise, this symbolic southwestern bird is artistically created where the upper part of his wings are designed with symbolic Pueblo "Rain Clouds" of Mother of Pearl, which are important in Pueblo life & are especially needed for crops of corn which are essential to the Puebloan people. Right below this area are circular cuts of turquoise that act as the raindrops & span the width of his wings.(See photos 5,6,7)

In the middle half of it’s body to the bottom, is a trapezoidal shape where you can see the Mother of Pearl crescent shape which acts as a ‘white’ rainbow & again, the little circular pieces of turquoise act as the rain.(See photos 5,6,7) At the very bottom of the bird are three 1/2 moon shapes that portray ‘developing clouds’ as if a storm is on it’s way! All the materials are mosaic inlaid atop of black jet.

THE TIPS:

Warrens tips have to be the best! The 3/8" thick tips are made to match the bird & are as much of a piece of art as the Thunderbird! They are nice & thick, with the material being mosaic inlaid atop of black jet (Fossilized Coal). The art is held onto a 4 mm black bolo strap & comes with an adjustable clasp,so you can wear this high or low! (See mannequin photos)

I have to admit, Warren takes this signature bird of the southwest to a whole new level of beauty! This is one reason why his Bolos are so highly sought after & asked for by name!

A WORD:

I want to mention that if the tips are not ever facing the right way, how you fix this is: you release the adjustable clasp & turn and twist the leather strap so the tips are then facing front. Not letting them move while holding them in place, you then want to tighten the clasp. Also the way to make the strap lay straight & not curved (Especially after shipping!) is you can either take a warm damp cloth & run it down the leather to straighten it. You can also use a leather conditioning cloth or a steamer (Avoiding the art of course!) You can get leather conditioning wipes at just about any grocery store,Amazon,shoe repair, etc..
