Circa 1940's -50's Classic Zuni Pueblo - Dainty Hand Made -Turquoise Cluster Squash Blossom Sterling Necklace-26"- Excellent Example of Early Zuni Work!

$1,495.00

Classic & dainty in design, while displaying some of the earlier works known to the Zuni Pueblo. This is a true vintage Zuni Puebloan necklace that was made back in the day when turquoise wasn't treated & tools weren't as readily available to artists like they are today.

Made entirely of tiny round & slightly oval cuts of natural turquoise, all the stones have maintained their blue color, which tells a person in the business, that the turquoise has an obvious higher quality & that the stones are 'harder' & so therefor, aren't so porous that they soak up the skin oils which make softer turquoise, turn green over time. (This is something that happens with natural turquoise & even though when the stones change to green gives Zuni work a phenomenal look, they are however, slightly lower grades) So a good way to think of it is: the harder the turquoise, the higher the quality, the higher the quality, the less color change. (stabilization is another subject)

Both the blossoms & the Naja are on a more petite scale & all the stones sit in hand made serrated bezels. Each of the stones are cut by hand & each vary in size..The cuts are uncalibrated & were cut by 'eye & feel". They have somewhat of a "primitive'' vibe in the way they were cut. And personally, this alone, gives the necklace that much more character & is what I see as a '"validating timeline " that shows us how far we've come, in comparison to the tools we had back then, to now, as to what is available to us today.

The sections are threaded though 2 strands of entirely hand made sterling beads that are in the 7.5 mm range. You can see on some of the beads where the 2 domed sections were soldered together, which validate it's 'hand made' factor. Veering to the closure, there is about 6-1/2" per side that is in a single strand. Has a beautiful naturally developed patina!

If you love the historical beauty of Zuni jewelry & can't wear anything heavy, you will love the weight of this! ( read weights below) It's very light in weight and easy on the neck, while giving you a wonderful timeline of the past!
