Navajo Artisan-LEANDER TAHE-4" Long Repousse/Hand Stamped-Traditional Navajo-Diamond Shape Domed Concho Earrings
THE ARTIST:
Gallup based Navajo artisan Leander Tahe, is an artist who shows no limit as to what he can do.. This qualified & highly creative artist can go from giving us these undeniable traditional Navajo pieces, (like you'll find in these earrings) but then can turn around & go completely modern on us.. But when it's all said & done, whatever he makes, he'll be sure to pour his whole heart & soul into each piece! His precision & attention to detail, impeccable repousse work are all something you'll immediately notice where you will never have to question how long he's been at it, because you will be able to see the years he has behind him in his work & what separates him from beginners...
THE EARRINGS:
These somewhat huge statement size earrings are made in an old school traditional style & show Leander's expertise when it comes to his highly impressive repousse work. To do repousse is an artform in itself & is a technique that takes skill & know how since it's done from the backside of the metal to give lift to the design on the front. Any little mistake can knock the whole design off track & will be obvious from the front side.(See backside of earring). And if you toss aside the beauty he gave the sterling, it is his repousse work that really takes these earrings to the next level!
Both the tops & the bottom's were originally cut in a square, which he then turned the shape so they would then hang in a "diamond" shaped pattern to give more length & width to the earring. The large bottoms are domed on the east/west sides.
THE FINISHING:
One thing I love about Leander's work is in his finishing & even though many Native artists oxidize their jewelry, Leander oxidizes his in such a way where you can tell who made the piece! He's one who instinctively knows how much & where to leave the darkened oxidation in order for the total earring to standout, while at the same time bringing out the beauty of the design.
Even though these are long & wide, they are not too bad on weight since they are made with a lighter gauge sterling. (See weights below) These are the perfect answer to pair with oxidized sterling Navajo Pearl necklaces & or any other traditionally designed-oxidized jewelry!

Please Note:
In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, photos can tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. Close up's make the item look so large & then you get it in hand & you are shocked since the item is much smaller than how they looked in the photos..So to get an accurate idea of how big these are, please either check them out being worn to get a rough idea (photo 2) or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements
