A PERSONAL WORD ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Living in a modern world has never let Kewa Puebloan artist Warren Nieto lose sight of all the traditions of the past..He is a man who lives & breathes his ancestral upbringing & it's the 'stories' that are passed down with each generation that are incorporated into everything he makes in today's modern world...Warren's ancestral Puebloan ancestry lived in the cliff dwellings of Chaco Canyon & it's their history that is passed on orally, with the rest being learned from the ancient walls inside the dwellings that were chiseled on the rocks in those dwellings...

THE EARRINGS:

I would call these an earring that say 'more with less'..There is something so absolutely gorgeous about this design that are so beautifully made on a 'smaller' scale!!

Totally hand cut without the use of calipers, these are made with some dynamite looking, vibrant blue Sleeping Beauty turquoise that have "Cloud Like" character throughout. (See photos) The rectangular shaped tops are fully mosaic inlaid where there is a larger rectangular cut of turquoise & then little tile like cuts that frame this center.

Although not a big difference, the dangles are cut on a diagonal slant which give them a "Mirrored" appearance, so there is an actual right & left earring..However,you can wear them with the shorter dangle going toward the face & the longer dangle sitting away from the face or you can wear them where the longer length is closer to the face & the shorter away..I personally would wear the shorter dangle closest to the face,but that's your call! :-)

If you zoom in on photos, you'll notice that the dangles are anchored to the tops by way of string, which give these a ancient ancestral Puebloan feel! This style was used by the ancestral Pueblo people in the Chaco Canyon region before modern day sterling jump rings were used & which come from the time period around 900-1300 AD.. The string is tied in a knot on the backside & then burned to secure it.(See backside of photos)

The mosaic is laid onto a black jet backing, which give them a lighter feel & because they also lack sterling, these are pretty comfortable on the ear without feeling pain. (See weights below for you to decide) They oooze an undeniable Pueblo vibe & might just end up being a real favorite to wear! Perfect call to pair with your other Pueblo pieces & or Sleeping Beauty turquoise jewelry!!
