This most FABULOUS looking bracelet was made at a period of time, when Mexico was moving away from the European designs that dominated the look of jewelry that was found throughout Mexico & moved toward creating jewelry that had a more 'undeniable-signature' look of Mexico..We give credit to people like Fred Davis & William Spratling who you could say were the culprits for this movement during the infancy days of the Mexican Silver Renaissance days.. Artisans were highly encouraged to go into their culturally rich past & relay that into metal form.

Made for the "Tourist Trade", the Aztec face jewelry you could say were done in mass quantities, where you could find them just about anywhere you'd go. I stopped collecting them decades ago, that IS, until a dear friend brought this very well designed one to me that was apart of her collection that I just couldn't resist!!

What I LOVE about this one is that it's different (if not rare!) & not one you see flooded all over the internet & in every vintage Mexican jewelry gallery! No, it's not just it's hearty statement sized width that really catches your eye, but the incredible workmanship in this is something I really appreciate seeing! It's pretty obvious that it was made by a truly skilled artist where you can see their years as a jeweler throughout. For example, on the tallest panels with the Aztec faces, they took 2 sheets of sterling, with the bottom layer being left plain & slightly more oxidized to accentuate the flourishing-elaborate-cut out design top layer to be easily noticed.. It really is a 'Work of Art!"

It is made up of 6 panels that are cut in a "Trapezoid" shape,so the panels are wider at the top, narrow at the bottom. This was a smart move on the artists part to allow fitting as the arm widens.

This originally had a cutter pin closure, which had weakened over time so my repair guy who specializes in closures, created a new closure where you have screws on the top & bottom end..(See photos 10 through 15) What you want to do is unscrew both ends, then line up the centers connection (see photo 13) & once aligned, screw the top & bottom! This type of closure, makes the bracelet very secure but may take a minute getting used to.. I have to admit, with a bracelet as great as this is,it's definitely worth the effort!

This pre-dates & lacks the "Eagle" stamp that was put on pieces after the year 1948 for taxation on every piece being sold in & out of Mexico.
