Los Castillo Pre-Eagle Vintage Taxco "Peasant Man" 925 Pin with "Tussie Mussie Holder" Design # 428
ABOUT LOS CASTILLOS:
The Castillo family played a major role in jewelry that came out of early Taxco, during the Mexican Silver Renaissance days. And with so many jumping on the jewelry band wagon during this time,it was the Castillo's who gained a reputation as one of the leaders in the industry. They started with William Spratling, who is given much credit for turning Mexican jewelry into what it became ,before opening their own shop that bared their name. They were also the culprits for many of the designs that were original to them & then later went on to become popular designs with other artists.
DESCRIPTION:
Such a wonderful piece of history!
The realistic depiction is of a Mexican Peasant man that is designed with so much detail, that it's like seeing him in person!! ;-))
There is a slight dip in his Sombreo, creases in his shirt & pants, while wearing a Tilmàtli (Tilma Apron), huarache shoes & carrying a 'Tussie Mussie' holder on his back! If you look at photo 4,you will see how the basket is open at the top!
This is a not just a collectible pin,but a true piece of art!
The patina gives the metal a 'glow' & the pin mechanism works like the day it was made! The pin is straight & for a piece this old,is in extremely well kept condition!
