Circa 1930's -Mexican (Taxco?) Artisan "ELMA"-Cut Out-Overlaid-Amethyst Leaf Sterling Pin with Old "C" Clasp
Having an undeniable Mexican vintage aesthetic, this is a pin that has a nearly 100 years old age & is in well kept condition & is made by a artist I've heard of, but don't know much about..
This pin is made with a "Leaf atop of a Leaf" design, where the top portion is cut out & then overlaid atop of the wider portion. A oval cab of Amethyst sits in between the separated design. The age is validated by not only the "C" clasp, but the hallmarks with one being her raised "Elma" lettering & the other being "Mexico Silver ".Some of the earliest pieces that came out of Mexico had this hallmark & or the raised lettering. This is also a "Pre-Eagle" piece, where it lacks the eagle stamp which they didn't start stamping on items till after 1948..The metal gauge is very durable & is not flimsy & bendable, but rather nice & strong..
This tests to be at least sterling, but could have a higher silver content (Like a 980-990 purity) but can't say since my acid tester only goes to sterling. And without a number of any of these purity's stamped on the backside,I can't honestly say. But knowing jewelry like I do,I would say this may possibly be 980 silver since there's no heavily darkened patination that you get with sterling over time & is pretty bright, which purer silver tends to have with age.

**I am not a professional photographer, but I do try to do my best at giving you accuracy in color without a whole lot of photo editing being done except to get rid of unwanted tones. Please go through photos to see any variation.
To give you close ups, pictures tend to look much more larger, with everything being much more magnified & exaggerated than in actuality. Close up's make the item look so large & then you get it in hand & you are shocked since the item is much smaller than how they looked in the photos..So to get an accurate idea of how big this is,you may want to take out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.
