Learning from her mother,Zuni Puebloan artisan Tamara Pinto has taken off in this industry for her own gifted talents & there's a reason why her work is so much demand, just look at the beauty of her incredible work! Tamara impressed the judges when she was honored with a 1st place ribbon award at the yearly "Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial" event, taking home an award in the "Lapidary" category! I am a huge fan of her art & anytime one has developed their own signature style without following the path of what & how others are doing,I highly respect..She is her own artist, who has her own identity, where once you see her art, you will always be able to tell whose work it is! THE BUTTERFLY PIN/PENDANT:

Zuni artisan TAMARA PINTO'S" spirit is drawn to the beauty of butterflies & in the 100's,if not 1000's she's made, they all come in a variety of different colors, since they are made with various colored stones & shells that she has elegantly cut, shaped & then created all the texture you see in each of the materials, by HAND!  

It is designed with large cuts of perfectly formed yellow shell & black onyx for the upper wings & which have embedded dots of Malachite, turquoise & coral that lay within the shell.. What appear as 'hearts' of Malachite lay near the Mediterranean Coral abdomen, whereas the lower wings are made with pink Mussel shell & have dots of Malachite that are embedded in the shell & then has bright vivid blue cuts of Sleeping Beauty turquoise on the lower portion of the wings & also which is used for the eyes.. Each section has sterling wire that separates one material to the next. The shell & stone lay in their own bezel (See photo) & is finished in a contemporary mirrored polished finished sterling. You can witness the love & time that went into this & it's obvious she poured her heart into seeing this was made right!

You can wear this as a pin OR a pendant & if worn as a pendant, you can't put it on anything greater than a 4 mm sized diameter(Whether a chain , leather cord or a sterling bead Navajo Pearl necklace) since the bale is quite small. When worn as a pin,you can put it on just about anything, like a hat, a cloth purse, a scarf, coat, sweater, blouse, etc.!!! The only thing I wouldn't consider using it on is a fragile fabric, like silk.
