This is a classic late 40's-early 50's Zuni piece that are not the easiest to find, since they have gone into the personal collections of true connoisseur's hands that collect vintage Native American jewelry. Not only is it a rare find piece, but to get a piece with old BLUE GEM???!!! It just doesn't get any better!!

Yes,you can still get Blue Gem,but unless it was mined back in this time period,the Blue Gem turquoise now just doesn't come close, since it's been picked over so much & the good stuff like this pin has,has also gone into collector's hands! These clusters were mined before the mine's closing, which was back in the 70's. Blue Gem is still some of the finest turquoise ever found, and unlike most turquoise mines, (in which the majority mined is chalky and only usable if stabilized) most of the turquoise found there was of gem-quality.

This has a darkened natural patina that has aged beautifully! Even though Blue Gem can give you these teal colors,I do believe this was pretty much the color it was when made.This is a sign of being a harder stone & in turquoise,the harder the stone,the higher the quality & the higher the quality,the less the color changes over time.

These were worn on the manta's of the Zuni woman..You can do the same or you can put this on a hat(male or female's),a purse,coat, & is light enough to wear on just about any fabric.(You can decide which fabric)
