Vintage Circa 1980's- Egyptian Revival- Impressively Hand Made- Chain Link CLEOPATRA Metallic Sterling Mesh Collar-15.75"
This spectacularly made necklace came through my store that was once owned by this customer who purchased the necklace in Egypt, she believed was sometime in the early 80's. Although worn frequently, she decided fairly recently that she wasn't wearing it enough to warrant keeping it. It is incredibly made and I purchased it for this reason.
Made in a Cleopatra collar of all sterling and being a huge fan of hand made work, all I could do was think of the TIME it took to make and the passion to make it! This is definitely one of those necklaces where you have to have lots of time on your hands and love what you do.. It is what is considered a "Mesh" collar and If you go beyond just looking at the overall look of this necklace & really give it a good close look, you will be able to observe a necklace that must have taken weeks,if not month's to make!
The mesh is 2" wide and each of those metallic sterling pieces you see throughout, then are connected by tiny, tiny sterling jump rings. Connected at the bottom, are tear drop shaped, tiny little hand made filigree drops!(Zoom in on photos 5 & 6)
Because of how it's made, it conforms to your body's structure and lays like silk as it comfortably follows the neckline. Measuring just under 16", this sits right at the bottom of the neck where all Cleopatra necklaces look their best! It can roll up & put in a jewelry pouch when you're traveling.
**WORKING WITH 'CUTTER PIN' CLOSURES**
If you zoom in on photos 10 & 11, you will see this has a "Cutter Pin" closure, which I personally find to be one of the most secure. However, cutter pin closures can be quite tricky if your not use to them.So you can see what you're doing,I suggest you closing this from the frontside, then turning the closure to the back, rather than trying to close it (or open it) from the backside where you won't be able to see what you're doing.
I personally find what works, is to pull the pin up (in it's open position and the flower of the pin at the top) and then align the center as if it's in it's closed position & then quickly push the pin down through all the cylinder openings.(see photos 1,3,9,10,11) I don't want it to sound harder than it is, because it's not, but does get easier with time if you're not use to them! If you have someone to help, well that's even better!

In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, photos can tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. So to get an accurate idea of how big this is, please zoom in on the mannequin photos to get an idea of it's size or you can do is pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.. I am not a professional photographer, but I do try to do my best at giving you accuracy in color.
