ABOUT THE ARTIST:

They say when you grow up in a certain environment, you take on that environment & become apart of your surroundings. And that’s exactly what happened to Sandra. Coming from parents who are well known in the industry, with her mom being Navajo Pearl master artisan “MICHELLE JAMESON” and her father being Navajo artisan “ANTHONY BOWMAN”, it was they who taught Sandra when she was about 10 years old, the lessons in both traditional Navajo jewelry & the art of making “Authentic” Navajo pearl beads..

While Anthony taught Sandra the technical in regards to stone setting, making her own bezels, soldering, etc., it was Michelle who taught her the art of making hand made sterling beads that was passed down from generation after generation.. Michelle learned the art at the age of 13 & then went on to teach Sandra all the ropes in knowing how to make ‘clean’ beads by cutting the sterling, doming and filing, soldering, giving the metal’s finishing, stringing and then buffing. Now 36 years old, Sandra has come along way & is asked for ‘by name’!

ABOUT AUTHENTIC NAVAJO PEARLS:

On today's market there are oxidized sterling beaded necklaces that people call “Navajo Pearls” & are nothing but a commercial-machine made oxidized sterling bead thats being produced overseas & then there are ones that are made entirely by the hands of Navajo silversmiths. Sandra's are the latter & what are called "AUTHENTIC" Navajo "Pearls"..

"Real" Navajo Pearls are made by Navajo silversmith’s & from start to finish take on an extremely labor intensive lengthy process. They are much more valuable because of the time that goes into making them & are 'artisan made' rather than by machine.. Once you see the 'real deal' over & over, you will be able to tell with time, what's machine made & what's artisan made. Also the price can be a clue as to what's hand made & what's not!

DESCRIPTION:

Navajo Pearl necklaces are a "must have" to any southwestern jewelry collection & one that pairs well, especially with jewelry with this same finishing. These make a great 'go-to' necklace since you can wear them with anything, anytime, anywhere! Made in a 9 mm average size beads, these length's look great on their own & will work with pendants that have a Shepherds Hook' connection OR a bale.. With the latter, you just have to be sure that the bale has an large enough opening (At least a 11 mm opening) to put a 9 mm bead through.

Both of these length's will work with a small to a medium sized pendant, but the 24" can work with a little larger pendant, since the bigger the pendant, the more you want to drop it away from the neckline. Also I want to say, you can always add an extender to either one of these to make the necklaces longer!

FYI:

All Navajo Pearl beads are hollow, with some being light in weight, while others are heavy. The weight of a Navajo Pearl necklace is dictated by the gauge of sterling that the artist chooses to work with & then of course how big the bead is & the length is (More beads)

Both of these necklaces I would call on the lighter side, while displaying the labor intensive art created by the hands of the Navajo people. You are NOT paying for the weight & size of these, as much as your paying for the time involved to make them!

If you want the real deal made by the hands of Navajo artisans, then buy Native, NOT overseas!
