Federico Jimenez- Mexican Theme- Early Matl Style -Amethyst Crystal Sterling Earrings with Pátzcuaro Fish Dangles -3.50"
Federico's love of Mexico can be seen though out these earrings..For one, If you follow Mexican jewelry that was made in the 30's to the 60's as I have (With the focus on Matilde Poulat-aka: Matl) then these tops may look familiar to you..Federico pays homage to one of her earliest designs, back when she was starting out & Mexico City based P. Ochoa it is said,to have been her teacher.(1930's) They are in perfect character to her work & are accented with a 8 mm faceted Amethyst "crystal".
Dangling below is somewhat of a pyramidal shape sheet of sterling that is given a dual texture at the bottom & acts as the anchor for the Lake Pátzcuaro fish dangles. These fish that come from the lake of Pátzcuaro in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Mexico are little white fish that have found their way into many Mexican jewelry designs & normally if you see fish in Mexican jewelry, it is the fish of Pátzcuaro..The people there, consider this fish the "Food of the Gods" & have deep cultural and economic roots in Mexico.
In regards to the finishing, the tops & the fish are somewhat oxidized, while the center tier has more of a high polish look to it.These may be on the longer side, but they have a wearable weight that's not too weighty on the ears (See weights below)
