Kewa Puebloan Artist-Charles Bird (Jolene's Son)-"MAYAN TEMPLE" - Mosaic Inlaid - Multi Color - Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Earrings with Pearl Dangles! Only 1 Pair Available!
"ABOUT THE ARTIST" IS AT THE BOTTOM!
THE EARRINGS: (ONLY 1 PAIR AVAILABLE WITH PEARLS!)
Made exclusively for my store, these incredibly designed earrings were inspired from the movie APOCALYPTO which was a Mel Gibson movie & if you haven't had a chance to see this must see movie, it was about the Mayans before the Spanish Conquest. The Mayans & the Ancestral Pueblo people had much similarities in regards to their culture & the jewelry they made, where both not only made the most beautiful mosaic jewelry, but these 2 cultures living miles apart, created mosaic turquoise jewelry that was made in the same way..
Made in a 2 section mosaic design that lays atop of a wood backing that was cut by Charles & is in one solid piece..(See backside) The tops have a conjoined curved design & then which are connected to a vertical 'hair comb' design. All the stones are hand cut & shaped & their vibrancy is contributed to the Sleeping beauty turquoise that is then laid side by side with various multicolored stones that are known to the Kewa village for color effect.
I have 3 pairs in this same style (the other 2 are in a separate listing under the “Earrings 1” category) & even though all 3 are ultra gorgeous, I love the addition of pearls in this pair! Yes, they modernize the look & not only do they add additional length, but they add a ultra sweet feel to the earring!!
If you love jewelry that is not flooded all over the internet & have a real historical cultural edginess, then these are a no brainer! Wear these with other Pueblo made jewelry that you may have or even a Mexican wardrobe! They ooze a serious "Mayan" vibe, as if you've stepped back in time when Mayan royalty wore the best!!

*****I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try my hardest to give you photos that are 'realistic" in color as much as I can. One thing that you have to realize however,is that all monitors are different, so the materials can look brighter (or duller) from one computer to the next. If you need more photos, in different areas of lighting, please let me know! *****
To give you close up photos, pictures tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. So to get an accurate idea of how big these are, please either check them out being worn to get a rough idea (photos ) or if you have one, you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.

ABOUT THE ARTIST-CHARLES BIRD
Born & presently residing in the Kewa Village, Charles is a Puebloan artist whose determined to stand apart from the rest in the Village.. The son of my good friend Jolene Bird, Charles continually gets inspired by his numerous award winning mother, who Charles still works closely with, but has beautifully branched out on his own. He has taken what he's learned over the years & then puts his own artistic twist with everything he makes.
He continues in the traditional path of his 'Ancestral Puebloan' ancestry which goes back centuries & centuries ago, but like his mom, gives somewhat of a 2024 approach in the finalized look. One thing I personally love about him is for the fact that he doesn't 'copy' the designs of others, which is why his pieces stand out, simply because they are different & very artsy!
With those of us who follow Native American jewelry, we can all admit that some designs can grown old after awhile since they are done over & over, with nothing new, nothing different. I don't know about you ,but I like to see artists do something different even with an old design, by bringing the design up a notch & by changing it up a bit, not only gives something a fresher look, but it shows the artists creativity!
When he's not grinding,& shaping stones & shells to enter into shows, he spends time practicing Jiu Jitsu, which he has earned not only 2 silver metals, but has honorably taken home the gold metal award as well!
