THE EARRINGS:
These Puebloan Dove earrings are made exclusively for my store by my long time Kewa Puebloan friend "JOLENE BIRD". Jolene uses all the traditional techniques that have been passed on through 'oral history' that date as far back to her Ancestral Pueblo relatives that once lived in Chaco Canyon/Mesa Verde region & from generation to generation, but no matter what she creates, she seems to always put a modern day/contemporary vibe into her pieces! (I also have some great earrings,necklaces, pots,bracelets,mosaic sunglasses,etc,!)
These are made where she used just about every stone/shell known to Kewa Pueblo jewelry, so they are nice and colorful!! Starting from a larger rock/shell,Jolene then hand cut and shaped all the materials so they can then be carefully mosaic inlaid atop of a pale yellow-ish tone, Serpentine backing.
They are a "Mirrored" earring where there's an actual right/left earring. Wear them how you like,but more times than not, women wear them with the face of the bird ,facing toward the face.
These would be a wonderful addition to any Kewa Collection and or Southwestern! Also the wonderful thing about wearing multi color jewelry,is for the fact that you can pull from any one of the colors in the design for your wardrobe selection!!
**Because of the earrings thickness does add a tad of weight to the earring, so please pay attention to the weight in the photos before purchasing, since I do not accept returns for these reasons that I have laid out for you to read and see.**

A PERSONAL WORD ABOUT KEWA PUEBLOAN AWARD WINNER "JOLENE BIRD":
Having worked closely with Jolene now for years, one thing I can personally say about her, is that there is nothing that she doesn't come in close contact with that she doesn't get her inspirations from, whether man made or God given. And it's what she sees with her eye that she then goes on to recreate & it’s this, that she also can’t stress enough to her artisan son Charles..She consistently tells him to 'be inspired' by what he sees & then emulate it with a mosaic picture done in traditional stone and shell.
I believe what Jolene offers, is not just about being another Puebloan mosaic artist, doing it the same way as everyone else, but rather stepping out of her own boundaries that separates her from others.. Jolene has wow’d us and all the judges at Native American juried events where she has gone on to making a mosaic inlaid chess set, mosaic sunglasses, fully mosaic gourd pots, mosaic chairs, a mini sized mosaic inlaid Volkswagen Beetle car and even went as far as fully mosaic inlaying a Gibson guitar!!(And that's just SOME of what she's made!) And at present, she's even working on a mosaic 'painting' of a woman she came in contact with that impressed Jolene enough to ‘paint’ her in mosaic form! The word "impossible" is NOT in this artists vocabulary! Jolene's work is highly collectible & gives us a historical ancestral Puebloan past,but with a contemporary edginess !
