Mary is one of the ONLY artists I know from the Kewa Pueblo who knows how to play with all the vibrant colors that our earth provides to us, while being gifted with an artists eye that allows her to create these eye drawing mosaic inlay pieces that end up becoming pieces of "Puebloan Folk Art".
You might call Mary a "painter", but instead of using paint brush's & a canvas, this artist uses her artistic hands to 'paint' her subjects in a mosaic array of stones & shells that she cuts by herself.. Mary stays close to her ancient Anasazi ancestry while giving her own twist to this ancient art by tastefully creating jewelry with somewhat of a contemporary Puebloan edge. Her art will always have a 'happy vibe', while leaning toward being funky & whimsical & just like Picasso, can be very abstract! (See my “Necklace & Earrings” listings )
THE NECKLACE:
The dynamite looking, contemporary style necklace is designed in a 10 panel Cleopatra style collar that beautifully follows the line of the lower neck. The design in each of the panel's stays uniform with the next & Mary's choice of material's play a major role in it's appearance, which personally I feel, is what contributes to it's eye catching look!
The horizontally laid stones & shell are non-calibrated cuts that are mosaic inlaid atop of black Jet. The top portion is made of Sleeping Beauty turquoise that was mined by John King from the Kingman mine & from what Mary told me,this color is not the easiest to come by..The next is orange Spiny Oyster shell, followed by a light yellow/green Serpentine, Lapis, & then a vibrant lime green (dyed) Gaspeite for added vibrancy. The curls at the bottom are Conus shell, which is a signature shell of Mary's that you'll see quite often in her work. When she cuts this shell, she'll take it's shape & use it to give the piece,it's whimsical look! The Conus is embedded into black Jet. Each panel is separated by 2 turquoise beads & the design is finalized where the necklace ends with these beads.
This is a piece of wearable art & a "one of a kind" necklace to be cherished!

SIGNATURE REQUIREMENT:
Because of the price, these will have a mandatory signature confirmation requirement & will come insured.. If you're not home in the day & need these shipped where they can be signed for, please change that in your "Ship To" section before I create the shipping label***I'm sorry if this may be an inconvenience, but I do not ship expensive pieces without one.
PLEASE NOTE:
*****I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try to give you photos that are 'realistic",so you're not shocked, nor disappointed when you get the piece.
To give you close up photos, pictures tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. Close up's make the item look so large & then you get it in hand & you are let down since the item is much smaller than how they looked in the photos..So to get an accurate idea of how big the necklace is,please zoom in on the mannequin photo to get a rough idea (photo 2) or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements
