ABOUT THE ART OF STEPHANIE MEDINA:
The judges at our yearly Santa Fe Indian Market event are skilled in all Native American art that is presented there & know exactly what they're are looking for in order to honor an artist with an award per category. These awards aren't the easiest to get & it takes something very special about their art to be honored with a 1st place award. This is where the work of Stephanie Medina comes in...
Being honored with the 1st place award in the "Youth Division" at our 2020 Santa Fe Swaia Indian Market(Virtual Event)Stephanie's work is becoming more & more recognized in the industry & it's truly impressive to know that she's ONLY 18 years old & is already becoming THE rising star by not only doing the traditional mosaic inlay work known to her Kewa Pueblo people, but she pays homage to her elders by stepping back in time by making these more recognizable pieces of jewelry that were known to her early Puebloan ancestry during the "Great Depression" of the 1930s,where a vast assortment of materials were used to mosaic inlay atop of, with one being old 78 rpm phonograph records..
Her jewelry has been featured in such prestigious shows as the Heard Museum Indian Fair & Market, the Autry Museum Indian Market and the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show and she has been the recipient of a Wheelwright Museum fellowship. She's a artist to keep an eye on!!!

THE EARRINGS:
These are made with one of the most recognizable birds of the southwest....The mighty "Thunderbird"..
Traditionally made with a contemporary feel,Stephanie took all these hand cut pieces & then mosaic inlaid each atop of old phonograph records to create these works of art!
The face is made of "Black Lip" oyster shell, the beak is made of Melon Shell, the arms & tail are of Abalone, the upper body & tail is made of Apple Coral & are outlined with black Jet & a bar of sterling in the middle.I believe the eye may be an Onyx bead. Because these lack sterling allows them to be very wearable!(see weights below)
One should feel proud to wear anything made by this incredible up & coming artist & give you a true feel of traditional Puebloan art!
