Navajo PHILANDER BEGAY High/Gem Grade Royston Turquoise KOSHARE KACHINA CLOWN 14k/925 Earrings

$1,350.00

These are called "Koshare Kachina Clowns"who are Sacred Clowns & is one of 5, who serve as these jesters. They are known for their black & white horizontal striped bodies, their hair separated into 2 ponytails that stand upright & have tips made of corn husk .Usually they are holding watermelon.

Only on these, instead of watermelon, they are holding a chunky oval cut of the most gorgeous & mouthwatering, gem grade green Royston turquoise, that is a deep luscious green with beautiful golden brown matrix..This grade not only deserves to be surrounded in gold, but also because the gold enhances the matrix & brings it more to life, than sterling would! The bezel is serrated & hand made..

If you zoom in on photo 8,you will witness how the arms are bent at the elbows & stick straight out,so they can hold the turquoise 'watermelon'.There are even fingers with realistic separation! They have so much detail in them..

These ceremonial figures are designed with a detailed headdress, that have 14K gold tips,a face that has 14K gold beads for the eyes & a tongue of Mediterranean Coral that hangs out their mouth (& even has a carved line that goes down the center of the tongue that depicts a real tongue~See all photos) They are also designed exactly like you would see at the ceremony, being designed with a necklace, arm bands, leg bands, perfectly painted black stripes & moccasins & holding a "watermelon"! (Of Turquoise!)

Earrings are a real rarity for Philander to make, since they are challenging. Each earring is done with a "one time" Tufa cast & it is not the easiest to get a perfectly matching pair & especially when you have to use 2 Tufa's to do it..It's also not only the design that has to be duplicated accurately, but the same weight, thickness, height, has to be there as well..

One thing that is very obvious,is the love & time that went into these! They look life like & like a perfect pair of museum worthy twins & Philander being the artist he is,they are like a painting or a sculpture that were transformed precisely into metal form!

If you love your jewelry on the 'finer, more sophisticated side, then these should be in the hands of the connoisseur who has a deep appreciation for exquisite Native American jewelry & collects collectible style pieces!!

Would make a excellent gift!
