A retablo in Mexican Folk Art is a devotional painting, especially a small popular or Folk Art one using iconography derived from traditional Catholic church art. Retablos are painted pictures of Saints on any thing of a flat surface,normally on wood or tin.These earrings are made where the iconic "Guadalupe" is made of sterling in a retablo style & are works of art to be worn..

If you are familiar with Hopi work where the design is in a 'cut-out~overlay',these are made the same way.

With each & every detail,Carlos 1st draws the design out,then begins to saw the sterling,that then is soldered atop of the darkened oxidized background,so every speck of detail can be seen..She is placed in a frame,just like any work of art..

The 'Quetzal" long tailed Central American bird fly's over head..Carlos fabricates his own roses at the ear & are hallmarked.
