Spanish Colonial Hand Painted 16th-18th Century Cuzco Peru Style Devotional Art Figure - Distressed Italian Leather Crossbody
ABOUT THE ART:
If you were to walk through any Museum that has Spanish Colonial~Latin American paintings,or any fine art gallery that specializes in carrying 16th-18th century "Devotional Art" pieces from the Latin Americas,(with the focus on Cuzco Peru), these are the type of paintings you will find & also come out of the Cuzco School. This traditional style of painting originated after the 1534 Spanish Conquest of the Inca Empire..These style of paintings are from Roman Catholic artistic tradition based in Cusco, Peru during the Colonial period from the 16th to the 18th Centuries. The European influence in these paintings came from the Spanish who tried to convert the Incas to Catholicism. These specific style of paintings are characterized by their exclusive use of religious images, lack of perspective, and the predominance of red, yellow, and earth colors & lots of gold leaf.
These purses are literally outstanding & beautiful works of art & you will not find another that is exactly the same, since each is one of a kind!
The painter that was used to paint this painting, studied under the Cuzco Masters & painted this with the same traditional methods that were used centuries ago. It is beautifully painted onto a soft pliable quality Italian leather that is hand rubbed for a distressed, antique look. The overall tones are golds & bronze, along with 22 K gold leaf colors in the painting, that do nothing but compliment the brown. The gold leaf is painted on a navy colored gown. The figure looks down in humility, with hands folded in prayer & is given a delicate disposition & you can't help but admire the stroke of the brush that was used.
The purse itself, is made in a western style & has extremely long fringe & being made in a crossbody style, will let you have the ability to leave your hands free, whether for shopping, traveling, having children to attend to & finally for safety, since you will always know where its at & will be close by your side.
Gold tone star studs run the height of the purse & are machine pressed(as opposed to heat applied) ,so they will not fall off..They are on both the right & left side of the painting, along with running the length of the long strap. The interior is fully lined in red cloth & has a deep drop.
**I personally own one of these Saint purses in a tote style, that I've carried practically everyday for over a year now & the painting looks just like it did, when I bought it,without any paint loss**
Like any fine piece of art,you can hang this on a wall when not in use!
****Between the strap & the long fringe, makes this purse pretty long and If you are a shorter type person and think that this might fall too long on you,you can always get the strap cut down at a shoe/leather repair place & then sewn back onto the brass rings(see photos),in order to customize it**
**In the last photos, you will find another crossbody & a tote I have listed by KurtMen.So please check them out!
