ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Traditional Navajo artisan Rudy Willie is apart of one of the most recognized & larger names in the industry..A brother & an uncle to many, Rudy is the brother to Ronnie, Juan, Lonnie & Melissa Willie & the uncle to Tawney, Cooper, Dakota, Shamenika Willie & the son of artisan "Mary Pease". Rudy is also the husband to "Happy Piasso" who is also a well known traditional Navajo artist & is one that Rudy often teams with.. He learned silversmithing from his brother Lonnie Willie about 40 years ago & it was actually Lonnie who taught ALL these names mentioned!

Rudy was raised in 'Cañoncito (Band of Navajos') which is now known as To'hajiilee & is about 30 miles or so west of Albuquerque on the Navajo Reservation. Like his wife & the rest of the Willie's, this is an artist that will always stay close to his old school Navajo roots & will always keep it 'traditional' in design without getting contemporary on us!!

DESCRIPTION:

I personally can't get over all the work that went into this cuff! The ornate embellishing is truly eye catching & highly impressive, and no where is the sterling left without design!

First tooling the shank in it's entirety, Rudy then went on to hand create both the various sized conchos & the various size beading, the appliques that fil in the gaps and the 2 large size crosses that then lay atop of the shank.The crosses lay horizontally on the shank & are beautifully hand stamped with Rudy's own stamps.(See photos)

But it's not just all the work Rudy put into this that gives this cuff the incredible look it has, but the finishing on this cuff is absolutely amazing!!!By leaving the sterling so heavily oxidized, accentuates all the deep stamping within each & everything he put in it! This heavily oxidized look is called "Vintage Revival" & is something the late "Harry Morgan" started some years ago,by giving Navajo jewelry a look, as if it's aged.

WRIST SIZE:

This is made for a larger sized 7" wrist & either man OR woman can wear this! It has a larger 5-3/4" interior so this area is pretty wide. The 1.25" gap opening is great for one who has a little 'fleshier' wrist & needs a wider gap opening to put it over the arm.
