Navajo Tufa Artist-LEE BEGAY-Traditional Navajo Man/ Woman 925 Tufa Cast-Morenci & Kingman Turquoise Bolo Tie-50"-PHENOMENAL Piece of Art!
ABOUT LEE BEGAY:
When Lee Begay started,he started by being influenced by his well known brother "Darryl Dean Begay", who is literally considered a giant in the industry himself. From looking at this you can see that Lee must have had it in him all the time, but it just took someone like Darryl to give him the skills to learn how to do the art of tufa casting right.
Lee Begay is a "True Artist" which is what it takes to do the type of jewelry that he is now so well known for. He is not only sought after for his jewelry, but is a painter at the same time..In a relatively short time, Lee has risen to the top & now like his brother Darryl Begay or his cousin "Philander Begay" his jewelry commands top dollar.. Also like Darryl & Philander, Lee gives us these incredible depictions of life on the Navajo Reservation as it is there & will take you on this journey as if you're right there. His work is highly sought out by only the finest of connoisseurs that collect Native American art that is done in metal form.
DESCRIPTION:
Lee recreated a beautifully made piece of art by giving us a depiction of the traditionally dressed Navajo man & woman as seen on the reservation..
THE NAVAJO MAN: Wearing his traditional high Navajo hat,his Squash Blossom necklace & then used for his face, is a large trillion cut of Morenci turquoise that has lots of gold-ish & silver pyrite fingerprint matrix throughout the stone.
THE NAVAJO WOMAN: The woman is finely detailed where you see all the movement of her hair that is tied back in the traditional Navajo chignon bun. Lee even drew horizontal lines in the middle of it, that emulates the yarn that is used to wrap the bun! On her ear is an un-textured earring that stands out since it doesn't have the tufa texture like the rest of her, She also wears a Squash Blossom, her face is of a bright blue chunk of Kingman turquoise.
The tips are long & hefty with crosses on the metal & blue turquoise that is tucked inside the bottom of the tips.(See photos)
The comfort strap is long & is made of a thick braided black leather that's about 3/8" round(7 mm) that are much more comfortable around the neck than the thin ones & are extremely durable.
This has all the wonderful texture from the Tufa stone, which guarantees anything that's made, to be one of a kind, since theTufa can only be used one time around..
Whether your a Texas oilman,Tuscon banker,Santa Fe Gallery owner or just love wearing top notch bolos, this isn't one to be passed up! Perfect choice to wear at Santa Fe Indian Market too!
