ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Navajo metalsmith Calvin Belin is a 52 year old man who has been making jewelry since he was 12 & like most Navajo children, they are raised in a household of other jeweler's, who are mainly their parents..He worked under his father who had the young Calvin,making bezels for his jewelry.. He lives in the heart of the Navajo Reservation in the town of Crownpoint,NM.

ABOUT THE TURQUOISE:

In the hills of Kazakhstan sits the Golden Hills mine,where this turquoise is only mined in the winter month's during the freezing cold & snow.They cannot mine it it the summer due to the area flooding due to the conditions there.It is difficult to get because of the environment & the location.

DESCRIPTION:

This particular cut highlights all the characteristics known to Kazakhstan turquoise. You'll see the deeper periwinkle coloring along with the sky blue coloring & it's brick colored matrix.

The beautifully cut pear shaped stone is the main focal point,while it sit's secured in it's bezel. Calvin made each of these beads that act as a halo for the stone,by melting the sterling into tiny beads & then one by one they are placed in order to frame the stone. Button like conchos are used as accents at the north/south ends of the ring,as well as on the sides of the shank.(See all photos)
