ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Born on April 23rd 1959,Herbert Ration was born & raised in Crownpoint,which is between Albuquerque & Gallup NM & right in the heart of the Navajo reservation.. Herbert still calls this his home & like others on the rez,he had a traditional Navajo upbringing & has always been surrounded by jewelry artists.

Beginning as far back to the 1800's,Herbert is a 9th generation metalsmith.. But it was his father that told him "If you make jewelry,,you will always have enough money to survive" & that's exactly what he did! At the young age of only 10,he started by helping his mother & father with pieces they were making & between their influence & trial & error, Herbert has now grown to be one of the Navajo's most respected artists.

Now having over a 1/2 century of artistry under his belt,he is widely known for his beetle,spider,dragonfly pins & when I asked him "When did you come up with this style"? "It came to me in a dream" he told me & has has been guided & has followed that dream ever since! Creativity flows through Herbert's veins & will not create until the time is right,his mind & soul are aligned & all his creative juices are flowing! I am honored to call him a friend & to carry his wonderfully created wearable art jewelry.

DESCRIPTION:
Made exclusively for my store, this "larger than life size" beetle isn't just your average looking beetle, but rather a "Southwestern Navajo Beetle" that's made with a colorful array of signature stones known to the southwest!

THE BODY:
It's body comes with teal colored Fox turquoise for the face & a huge cut of Wild Horse Magnesite (AKA-Appaloosa Jasper) for the body. Don't confuse Wild Horse with white turquoise because it is not..It is not even turquoise. It is however mined around other turquoise mines,but with Wild Horse,it only comes from one place & that's the Globe copper mine in the Gila wilderness area of southeastern Arizona. It's sterling wings are very Navajo in style & have a light tooled design.

EYES/LEGS:
It's twisted sterling legs are bent high & made long & on each tip sits a different stone & are not repeated from one side to the other.(See materials in "specifics' below) It's Italian Coral buggy eyes sit low in a high bezel..

There are so many wardrobe pieces you can pin this on & either woman or man can wear it! Pin this to a western hat,a purse,pin it to a shawl,wear it on the shoulder,a coat,etc..Let your imagination go!! I do want to mention that because of it's weight,I personally wouldn't put this on any delicate fabric.

He's a big colorful buggy bug with long legs & is a fine piece of "whimsical wearable art"!
