DESCRIPTION:
Looking like it was unearthed centuries ago from a region that occupied the Mayans,this pendant is very "Apocalypto" in style & looks so realistic as if it should be in some lit Museum case!!! Federico's decades year old love affair for archeological artifacts are clearly witnessed in this AMAZING piece of art! Taking from his cultural roots & then pairing it with a more modern day southwest feel,is what this pendant is about. It has a serious Pre-Colombian feel.
The Maya were known for their wonderful Mosaic work & this pendant emulates a person of authority..It's a very colorful large piece,where the Mayan's face is made with all hand cut Obsidian which was used by the Maya for centuries..The Obsidian then is mosaic'd onto a sculpted clay face where the pieces used, are very irregular in cut & are laid where they are not to fit tightly side by side,but rather enough space is given to where you see the clay underneath which really gives it an ancient feel as if it's cracked from time! (Please zoom in on all the photos) The eyes I believe are made of bone & he even has pupils!
Going across it's forehead are cuts of Spiny Oyster shell that lay in a channel mosaic inlaid pattern & has a piece of turquoise above. (See all photos) He is designed with the most gorgeous & elaborately made headdress that's made of huge triangular cuts of orange Spiny Oyster Shell & below the chin are cuts of both turquoise & spiny oyster.
The art is all bezel set & displayed atop of a hefty amount of sterling & is all in one solid piece of sterling (I.E. meaning nothing is separate-see backside photo #12)
This will hook onto your favorite sterling bead necklace & comes with a shepherds hook that can be opened more so it can accommodate a larger size bead (If you don't work with metal,a reputable jeweler can do this for you) I do want to mention that this has a hefty 4 ounce weight, so whatever you put it on,has to be strong..
