SOLD ONLY AS A SET!!

The Santo Domingo Puebloan people have a long track record for their fine lapidarian skills, which has been passed on from their Ancestral Puebloan ancestry, who once occupied the Chaco Canyon/Mesa Verde area of the states. Each generation was either taught their art & history through 'hands on' training or through "oral history".

I must admit, there are some phenomenal Puebloan Native American artists that produce some of the finest pieces that come from the Kewa village, but artistically, some of the most creatively made pieces are made by this husband/wife duo,"Torevia & Delbert Crespin", who are a tight team of artistry..

Known for their incredibly designed stone/mosaic work, the Crespin's have taken this ancient art form to a whole new level of beauty & with every piece they make, end up being one of a kind pieces of art, with no 2 pieces being the same. Just like a painter that works with brushes, a canvas & tubes of paint, this couple works with our earth's natural colored stones & shells. To properly get the balance right, they stand back from their art, so they know where the placement of color should be in order to get maximum effect. I personally feel it's not only the way they work with their colorful materials, but more so, it's their "Eye" for knowing how & where to then lay each cut that makes their work wonderful pieces of wearable art! This VERY traditional Kewa Puebloan family live quietly & comfortably in the village, where they have their own farm & grow corn, raise cattle, sheep, pigs, peacocks, you name it!!!

NECKLACE:

Made exclusively for my store, this is made where the beauty of Lapis plays a dominant role in the design. The necklace is made with 3 mosaic inlaid panels where each & every stone/shell is cut to perfection in a geometric shape. The panels are all the same precise size & have pretty much all the same materials, but what is different in the 3, is where the materials are laid. The mosaic is inlaid atop of black jet (Fossilized coal)

THE HAND MADE LAPIS BEADS:

I want to 1st mention, that this necklace is NOT made with pre-bought, pre-cut, commercially made round beads of Lapis that were purchased & then restrung, but rather each & every bead of Lapis is completely made BY hand, where one by one, Delbert started from the larger rock of Lapis & then worked the stone till the right shape & size were formed. Each bead is then hand drilled in order to string them! And unless you're a lapidarian or are in the gemstone/rock business, many don't know just how dense Lapis is & is so hard & dense where the artist will go through many bits & wheels just to cut it!! (Artists time is dictated in price) There are 3 strands & all the beads are in the 8 mm size range(roughly 3/8") Torevia made this with a 2-3/4" sterling chain, so you can drop the length is you like! You can also put the hook anywhere within the chain.

The earrings are made with the same materials, same geometric pattern & have a very wearable weight! (see weights below or view photo 14) Sorry, but I failed to take a photo of the earrings on the ear, so if you need to see how they look, please email me!
