THE HAND MADE BLACK JET BEADS:

I want to 1st mention, that this necklace is NOT made with pre-bought, pre-cut, commercially made beads of black jet that were purchased & then restrung, but rather each bead of is completely made BY hand, where one by one, Delbert started from the larger rock of this fossilized material & then are cut into smaller pieces & then tumbled over & over till the right round shape & size is formed. I don’t know how they do it, but no commercial manufacture comes close to what the Puebloan people do! Yes, it's a time consuming process, but that is the beauty with 'old school' artisan made jewelry where everything is still done by hand!! Each bead is then hand drilled in order to string them! It's the decades long skill of knowing how to work with stones & shells that allow us to appreciate the beauty of Puebloan art.. It's they, who are the "True" lapidarian' s of Native jewelry where everything is still cut & shaped by hand. This was an art that was passed down through Torevia's & Delbert's Ancestral Puebloan ancestors who once lived in the Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde areas of the states.

All the beads are in a 10 mm size range(give or take) which help to give this the uniform look it has. If you need a tad more length, there is a 2.50" long heavy gauge extender chain to adjust. You can put the hook anywhere within the chain.

THE MOSAIC INLAID CENTER PANEL:

Made in a traditional Kewa style, this is made with hand cut & shaped materials that are laid in a geometric pattern panel. The material is mosaic inlaid atop of black jet.

Although contemporary in style, but traditionally made, this type of necklace can be worn in OR out of southwest and you would be surprised with how much you’ll be able to wear this with!
