Brought into Mexico during the Spanish Colonial days,filigree is one art that Oaxaca claimed as their own..

There are more steps to doing "Proper" filigree work than you could ever imagine!! It literally takes years to be at a "Master" level & not all jewelers can or want to do it.It is one of the most tedious & time consuming art forms & has almost become a lost art for these reasons.You have to have deep desire to do it.

No,it isn't just wrapping the wire into precise little forms,but the wire is pulled to a super fine wire to make it more workable (without losing the integrity of the metal) & then each wire is serrated.Each twist & turn to make each of the tiny circles that act as the frame has to be right on the money,otherwise the form is completely thrown off & you got a mess.Usually you will also see 'diamond cutting" that goes around the garlands for a faceted sparkle when it hits the light.

If you can appreciate the time artists go through with their hands,you will love this style jewelry,since everything is done by hand,including making the base's for the garlands to sit in!

There are about 5 designs that are popular to Oaxaca jewelry & the "Jardin"design is one ("Har-Deen"-The Garden)

Given a highly feminine feel & literally everything is done by hand to make it..It took a minimum of 2 month's to complete.

It's designed with a repeated design throughout,including the center drop.The tiny 3 mm beaded garlands are sewn where they lay perfectly in their form & it's so obvious that Federico had only one of his best Oaxaca filigree artists make this, since it's beyond perfectly made! 

Unlike many pieces by Federico,this one is not over the top in size & weight, but says a whole lot in a simplistic style.

The design portion is approximately 14-1/2" long & then has 4" per side of all hand made chain! It has a oxidized vintage finishing.
