ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born, raised & presently residing on the Navajo reservation in the town of To’hajiilee,(Toe-hah-jah-lee) NM, Navajo artisan Dakota Willie was born to make jewelry. And when you got the last name "Willie" & your father is RONNIE WILLIE, there's no way you can escape the art of creating jewelry, because just about everyone in the family makes jewelry & all have made a name for themselves in the industry.(See my Ronnie Willie, Tawny Willie (Cruz), Cooper Willie,Shaminika Willie & Rudy Willie listings who are just a few of Dakotas cousins & the latter being his uncle.)
Dakota learned like many Navajo children learn & whether it's the parents, the uncles, aunts or grandparents, in Dakota's case it was his father Ronnie Willie (See my listings) & his mother who took Dakota under their wing when he was only 8 years old & has now been making jewelry for 23 years.
Dakota is an "Artist" & not just in jewelry design, he also spends his time as a clothing fashion designer, loves to paint & loves doing anything that's artistic & creative..He specializes in traditional Navajo jewelry & many are made with a contemporary edginess..

THE EARRINGS:
Dakota paid homage to his family's Navajo rug weavings, but turned the design from the woven rugs into a "metal art" form. The rug design hangs from a little traditional concho & are made in a elongated octagon shape. In these,Dakota used at least 6 stamps to create the design & by looking at them,he validates how skilled he is at this artform.
They are finished in a satin brushed finshing,so no need to bring out the polishing rag with these! These will be the perfect compliment to new Native made oxidized jewelry that shares this same finishing or if you want to pair them with your vintage Native jewelry, that'll work too! And lastly, you can't forget about pairing these with strands of Navajo Pearls & how well they'll look together!
In the last photo are 2 more designs where the earring at the bottom of the 2 in the photos is listed in this category!

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING
In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, photos can tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified & exaggerated than in actuality. Close up's make the item look so large & then you get it in hand & you are shocked since the item is much smaller than how they looked in the photos..Also because of the close up photos, things that look highly obvious in the photos, usually would have to have it pointed out in person. So to get an accurate idea of how big these are, please either check them out being worn to get a rough idea (photo 2 ) or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements
