ABOUT THE RESPLENDENT "QUETZAL" BIRD:
Worshipped by the Mayas and Aztecs, the Quetzal bird is THE symbol of freedom, beauty, divinity. For many centuries, the Quetzal played a very important role among the indigenous peoples of Central America, and was associated with the wind god Quetzalcoatl. Owning it's "resplendent" name, this bird is considered one of the most beautiful birds in the world. With tails that can reach up to 3 feet long, these vibrantly colored birds live in the mountainous, tropical forests of Central America, specifically in the cloud forests of Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras and Mexico where they eat fruit, insects, etc. They play an important role to the forest by way of seed dispersals as they eat fruit & excrete the seeds in their droppings, which helps to maintain the biodiversity of the forest. The Quetzal has the most colorful iridescent plumage that shimmers in the sunlight. The males are much more colorful than the female & are a monogamous bird that mate for life.
Their feathers were highly prized by the ancient Mayan & Aztecs who used them in their religious ceremonies. The Quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala & is depicted on the country flag & coat of arms. Their feathers were considered so precious that they were even used as a currency of exchange.
THE EARRINGS:
Nothing spells out elegance, refinement, grace & style anymore than by pairing this most gorgeous bird with the beauty & elegance of small baroque white pearls.
Anchored from a hand made floral pearl top, is a large 'pear' shape wire drop that acts like a bezel for the Quetzals to sit snug against as they follow the form of the wire. The Quetzals are all hand tooled, showing their feather detailing. Where their tails meet, is a filigree wire flower accented by a single pearl. The design is finalized by 7 small baroque pearl dangles, where each have their own natural shape.
These are a very versatile earring that will go with a variety of wardrobes! They will look absolutely gorgeous with traditional Mexican clothing, as they will with anything designer to denim! These no doubt, can't help but bring out all your feminine attributes! They're simply elegant & delicious and would also make an excellent choice if you're a Flamenco dancer!
