A PERSONAL WORD:

Having been a collector of vintage Mexican jewelry for now well over 50 years, there’s not many designs I haven’t seen or literally haven’t fallen in love with. This passion is even stronger today & I still want to grab the smelling salts when I not only see a well designed piece, but well designed jewelry that has that serious traditional look that literally SCREAMS Mexico!!

During the Mexican Silver Renaissance & especially in Taxco’s infancy days, artists then were getting away from the designs that their European invaders brought with them, but with the influence & brains of William Spratling, they were now going back in time to their “Pre-Colombian/Aztec/Mayan” ancestry & giving their designs a look that was only signature to Mexico. Very few designs stayed & one was European Filigree, that ended up being a mainstay in Mexico & especially in Oaxaca. These are an earring that if you didn’t know Mexican jewelry designs (With the focus on Oaxaca & counter areas of Mexico) you would think they were from Spain or even the Moors.

THE EARRINGS:

These earrings were inspired from Margarita Figueroa’s personal collection (See photos 5 & 6) that were signature to Iguala, Mexico. Taken from the book “Mexican Jewelry”, Federico decided to step back in time to recreate this fabulous design, but put his own twist into the design by not only making them more in his signature size, but by having added a generous amount of small Baroque pearls.

Completely hand made by one of Federico’s master filigree Oaxaca experts, these are made in a 3-tier connected style, where the 1” round tops are made with super fine serrated sterling filigree wire with a floral cluster of tiny white pearls, then the 2nd tier has a wide hand made bow that also has a floral cluster of tiny white pearls in the center. The 1-3/4” long 3rd & final tier, is an oval shape drop with 5 vertically laid baroque pearls that are framed by serrated filigree wire. The entire base for each tier is completely made by hand & all the pearls are sewn down into the metal & tied off on the backside.(See backside last 3 photos) A “Diamond Cut” technique outlines the pearls & the underside of the bow for a little sparkle!

I have to admit, if you love a great looking Mexican earring, you won’t get a prettier, more authentic Mexican earring than these! They will not only make THE most perfect wedding/bridal earring, but would be perfect with any & all embroidered Mexican clothing (Chiapas/Oaxaca) to a sleek black designer dress to an all white outfit!

There was only ONE PAIR made & from what I was told, they may not be made again, so here at Plata de Santa Fe Jewelry is the only place you’ll be able to find these!

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING:

In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, can tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified & exaggerated than in actuality. Close up's make the item look so large & then you get it in hand & you are shocked since the item is much smaller than how they looked in the photos.. So to get an accurate idea of how big these are, please zoom in on the photos showing them on the ear or you can pull out a tape measure or ruler if you have one on hand & compare to my given measurements.(I will also be providing a photo asap how they look on the ear)
