THE EARRINGS
These vibrant colored Spiny Oyster shell earrings are made under the direction of Federico by the hands of one of his on staff master inlay artisans, whose work I would consider beyond impressive & never will create anything less than "precise" when it comes to this type of art! He's what I would call a "Rock Star" mosaic artist!
These "Wearable Art" earrings are made with 2 art forms that take skill,know how & patience.. One being lapidary (Stone cutting) & the other being mosaic inlay work. As you can see,both are done beautifully & precisely. The wings & drop were cut down from the whole shell & then each have deep chiseling that accentuates their wing pattern & then are beautifully beveled, which give each sectional part of the wing their graceful lines & smooth appearance. The abdomen,eyes & the antennas are designed in a Zuni Pueblo style of inlay, where they are channel mosaic inlaid with red Spiny Oyster shell, Sleeping Beauty turquoise & black Onyx. This technique is truly time consuming & especially when working with this small of material! You figure that each piece has to be cut perfectly to fit side by side as they lay in their mosaic inlaid form.
The oval-ish drop is has also been hand chiseled.. This drop is actually what is used on the neckline of Federico's larger 5 panel butterfly necklace I have in stock & you can see the 5 panel by going to “Women’s Jewelry” then click on “Necklaces”
