ABOUT DELBERT:
Delbert's work demands a higher price than most & it's pretty obvious why.Considered a veteran "Master Navajo Artist" that has been at this now for decades & is the artist that has taught & helped pave the careers for many of today's traditional Navajo Gallup jewelers that you find on the market..Delbert is the 'go-to" guy & the one other silversmith's look up to when they need technique/inspiration.

Delbert's work is beyond extraordinary & stays true to his Navajo roots by staying undeniably, traditional. He is 'old school'for the fact that each & everything that goes into his intricate metal work is completely hand fabricated.

Jewelers that started back in the era he had,it was important to use only natural, premium stones for their jewelry & with so many mines now closed down,it's hard for someone who came out of that era to settle for anything less, especially when your reputation & name are on the line..

Delbert 1st hand picks his stones & then lets the stone(s) dictate the design..He never knows what he is going to make until the stone starts to 'speak' to him & then builds around it with the heavy gauge sterling & incorporating the most incredible ornate, embellished work.

THE CUFF:

It really takes a lot to impress me when it comes to jewelry & I am probably one of the most picky when It comes to buying, but what this cuff has going for it,there is not one thing about it,that I didn't find impressive!! All the way around, this is a "win-win" cuff & it just doesn't get any better!! From all that beautiful sterling work that Delbert cuts & creates by hand,to the PREMIUM choice cut of Royston,to the heavy weight it has,the gorgeous finishing & finally, the fully tooled underside that completes this work of art!!

The cuff is fully designed in a traditional Navajo "Old School-Vintage Revival" style, where he covered the entire shank by using 2 different domed conchos(see photos 3 & 4),along with beading that look like little Navajo Pearls & various shaped repousse appliques. All of these that are laid across the top, give additional weight to the already heavy gauge sterling shank.

The blue Royston turquoise is a top of the line-premium quality & is the best you can get..It is beautifully domed & has a 'glossy-mirror' finish, which validates the quality, since low grade-softer turquoise will not give this glossy finish when the lapidarist goes to polish the stone. It sits in a hand made serrated bezel.

NOW,for the underside! This is fully tooled & looks like a Navajo Rug design (see photos of interior) Too bad you can't reverse the cuff, because the underside is just as gorgeous as the top!! :-)

The finishing is just as drop dead gorgeous as the rest of it! It literally gleams with beauty! He knows how & where to give the metal maximum contrast by leaving it deeply oxidized deep in the crevices below & a lighter oxidation on the tops.

You can witness ALL the love & time that went into making this extraordinary cuff!

Delbert is highly collectible & this cuff can be passed down from generation to generation & will only increase in value..Delbert is the artist if you want 'collectible' premium Navajo jewelry..

**THIS IS JUST A SMALL EXAMPLE OF WHAT DICTATES PRICING IN JEWELRY AND OR TURQUOISE.**

1st of all, the artists name has a lot to do with how expensive a piece will be..You can have 2 designers making the same thing, the same way,but if one designer has a 'bigger-more recognizable' name, their's will cost more.It all comes down to how many years they've been in the industry, the awards they've won, the demand for their jewelry or say if a well known artist has passed.(Delbert’s name always demands a higher price)

People many times wonder, how can you have turquoise from the same mine, that's made by the same artist,it's made the same exact way,but one will be more expensive. The reason is, the cost 'per carat' was either lower or higher, as well as the size of the stones..

Turquoise, like any stone, has low & high grades, with high grades costing more than low grades & whether the turquoise is natural or treated, with natural being more valuable per carat than treated..This will determine then how much the stone will cost..Then you look at what the artist had to pay 'per carat' for that grade of stone,as well as how'many carats' for the quality chose..This also relates with other stones, whether it's coral, spiny oyster, diamonds, rubies, peridot, amethyst, etc.

What also dictates the price is the cost of the metal, the weight of the metal & the time to make the piece! Artists put their time into giving us their incredibly made pieces & their time needs to valued & respected!

This is just a little on how pricing works! And in this business, you pay for what you get!
